Walks and images

Teaching through the summer and fitting the occasional walk and painting in, out of necessity.

…. Thinking about how I can incorporate my walks into my painting. I’ve always walked to think up new ideas for my work, and will be blogging about this over the coming months. I hope to be undertaking a series of walks and paths early Autumn in southern Spain, and specifically walking alone; as a woman I think this is something that needs to be reclaimed, and besides, I like it and isn’t that the point of it..  I will be taking a camera and sketch book. I want to see how my work changes, perhaps using less narrative, thinking about how each walk manifests itself through the pencil, while not specifically drawing the landscape, but ‘drawing from’ the landscape and seeing what wants to be expressed..

My work invariably tends towards the narrative, as this is something that I enjoy, and my buyers relate to, (hence, my paintings often sell.)  However, during these walks /drawings / paintings, I hope to explore some more formal aspects of drawing/painting.  Perhaps how the walk draws out notions of spatial relationships on paper, between objects seen , felt and passed, using pattern, mark making, form, texture, abstracted techniques.
